Candoo How To adjust the time before Apple computer automatically logs out
For security purposes, it is common for Apple computers to automatically log out when they are not in use. However, if this is happening too frequently, it can be a source of frustration since you may need to re-enter your password to unlock your computer.
This guide will show the steps of how to change the amount of time before automatically being logged out.
Please Note: the screens below are from an Apple computer running macOS BigSur 11. There may be slight variances for computers running a different macOS.
Step 1
Click the Apple icon
in the top left corner and then select System Preferences.
Step 2
In the System Preference screen, select Security & Privacy.
Step 3
Select the General tab near the top of the window. Then next to the first check box that says 'Require Password', click on the blue arrows inside to select a different time. This is the amount of idle time required before the computer logs out and requires a password to unlock it.
Please note that you may need to enter your computer password to confirm changes.
